Game Prop - Fire Extinguisher

Hi Polycounters,

I made a prop for practice I though to try something simple to begin with but which would give me the chance to make some metal materials.

Take a look and see what you think I'll go for something more complex next. I'm open to suggestions for what to add for a folio.

Are you just looking for crits on the materials/textures or on the model as a whole? If the latter, you should upload a shot of the wireframe.

Looking good. You should add some of the dirt to the diffuse as well though. And add some dirt to places where dirt would build up, like the bottom of the main red body.

Thanks guys, mainly it was textures and materials as I was a straightforward model to make.

I'll add some dirt build up as you suggested and think about a follow up piece to make the next couple of days. I'm working on improving the folio.

Oh I did post a wire it was a bit to faint though, the second image right hand side?

    Cheers

To my untrained eye, it looks good. Please excuse my noobiness, but what are the bottom two textures? I know the top left is the diffuse and the top right is the normal map, but what about the other two?
  • Imasho
Cheers jbos1190 the bottom left is the specular map and the other is the gloss map which was in the alpha channel of the specular map for displaying in marmoset viewer.

The bottom of the grip looks extremely awkward, more like saw teeth than a proper grip. You could fix it by really increasing the poly count of the area, but I'd recommend going to a more traditional smooth grip; it'll look better, use fewer polygons, and very few people will know there's a difference.

The dial on the charging gauge seems to have far too many polygons for its size & importance; 12 sides is probably the upper limit for a small detail on a prop.

The cylinder has 4 height segments in the middle of the body that aren't necessary.

I know modern engines can push millions of polys, but you should still avoid wasting polygons where they don't contribute to the silhouette.

Cheers DWalker I'll look into that tomorrow.
