Your spec map and gloss map need to be pushed alot, its looking very flat atm. I would say since this is your 1st time texturing try to stay away from Ddo it wont teach you much in the long run. Get together some textures and decals that you want to include on the model.

To get a better idea of what you need you should ask yourself, what is the condition of the weapon? where is it being used? how often, is it brand new or has it seen many battles. This will help you understand what needs to bee included a.k.a (Rust, Sand, Grime, Chips in the metal) and so on...

CG Textures is a great place for finding decals and surface textures. Alternatively depending on your art style you can paint alot of those surface details and bring them out in the spec map. Such as the edge wear.

Dont get me wrong dDo is great, but Its best used to speed up repetitive work flows. The goal for you should be learning, the more you learn about Texturing either manually or from Texture Images the better you'll get and this will show when you come back to dDo in the future. the main issue here is material definition. the blade is quite flat as I said before, you need to raise the spec and tighten the Gloss.

The Blade could use a few more verts its looks a bit blocky compared to the rest.
Hope this helps, keep going I like the Model!
P.S The Hilt reminds me of gordon freeman's crowbar :)
