Home 3D Art Showcase & Critiques

Set up portfolio website, any critiques on the layout?

http://www.hendowski.com

So I know it's not a lot right now with models, but I was more looking for critique on the actual construction of the website. Is it aesthetically pleasing? Does it completely suck? If you were hiring, would the layout just be so hideous and hard to navigate you'd want to kill yourself?

Any and all critiques are more then welcome!

Some quick feedback. Your header read as an add at first, I think the 3D image change is to much, and don't like that it's auto changing either. I find it weird that you have different layouts for the revolver and driven, personally i like the revolver layout (less clicking and faster). And the fading makes the website feel a bit slow I like it more instant. The website is not crap, just needs a few tweaks. :)

I First want to link you to a analysis I did a while ago when I was redesigning my Sites. I noticed that they all have something in Common part from amazing looking work which is there Simplistic. Your Site is there for Employers to see your Work. they don't care about fancy web design just what quality of work you can produce for them. In saying that Simplistic design has also become modern design i.e Flat Shaded or Unshaded nothing fancy...as I said before.

Have a Look through the Portfolio Links and see for yourself

This Doesn't mean copy this because it works but use it as a guide line till you find something you like. add your own flair but make it suttle

S_ource is in there to lol, another example of why people use this layout. the only thing that stands out to me on his site is his work and that's good. Hope this helps you along the right path it helped me alot

    Also
    - Bright Colors draw the eye
    - Less clicks is better

I personally think a portfolio should be as simplistic as possible. It's good to separate it in different projects but I think you should just have big thumbnails instead of a slider. I didn't even realize you could click on the pictures to see the actual project until I read the comments here.

I think you should get rid of all the fancy design stuff and just keep it simple.
And the header is really clashing with the rest of the page atm.

here are a few great portfolios:

That site is incredibly javascript based it seems, after disabling NoScript on the site it still took a few extra seconds for it to load which could be enough time for someone to think the site isn't working and move onto the next portfolio me thinks.

For the description box you have at the top you probably could have added that into the presentation shots on the revolver and I found the spinning big image to be cool but not the best as a form of navigation, I was about to click on one model and it switched on me pretty fast making it more of an annoyance.

The header is sort of misplaced with the color scheme and I feel like it takes up more room than it should. I imagine it would be best to be able to show your images faster to a potential employer and make sure that they stand out the most.

Hey guys! I did a complete rehaul of the entire website to make it WAY more simple, taking the idea of one of the portfolios posted.

Is it easier to navigate? Any suggestions? I'd love some feed back!!! Thanks!

Hey! Site looks fine. But you should really take another look at your texts. There are a lot of typos, and sometime you talk in past sense and sometimes not. This makes it look really unprofessional.

Site's looking great! Now you just need to work on more content. 2 notes about the revolver:

On this image you've got a lot of yellow colors on the revolver, with a yellow background.

Imo it would look better like this:

And on your texture sheet you've got a white background which is drawing too much attention. Also you only have your diffuse and normal map, I'd add the specular and maybe gloss if you have one.
