The Scarf Project

Hello, Polycount! I've started working on a series of very stylized, game-res characters.

Here's a set of drawn orthos for the main character.

Here's the current progress I have on her character model.

Here's an earlier look at the 3D model

As always, be sure to give me as much constructive criticism as you can. I'm very early on, and still working out the kinks of how the characters will be translated into 3D, so changing things comes easily.

Well the concept looks interesting but I'd suggest working on the model a little bit more before I give too much C&C. So far the only real thing I notice is that her arm seems a bit low. Also I'm not entirely sure because of the angle, but I'm thinking her torso is a bit too long to begin with, especially because she already has a neck. Like I said, model a bit more and it'd be easier to provide more C&C.

Hey guys. Did some more work on the model, I just need to work on the torso some more, add some final touches to the face, and get started on the scarf.

There's something not quite right about those eyes. They seem a bit weird and not organic like displayed in your concept. Look at some examples of cartoon girl eyes:

Right now with the two half-spheres you get a bit of a Toy Story 1-ish look which is a little awkward and doesn't fit your style I don't think. Evern Toy Story 2's Jesse went with the organic eyes. Now I'm ot saying you need to be Glen Keane when it comes to this character, but there needs to be a bit more of an appealing character in the 3D. I did some crappy paintovers but all in all...just focus on some good organic eye design.

Edit: In retrospect my paintovers aren't appealing at all. Don't look at them

I'm still thinking of ways around this, but the biggest solution in my mind is making the half-spheres part of the actual face mesh and smoothing it out to have that organic look.

Here's some more modeling work. Unless there's some other stuff for me to consider fixing, I can move right onto the proper texturing phase. Not shown is her scarf which is separate from her for the moment. Once in the rigging phase, I'll show how it connects to her.
