Hey guys!
So i'm aspiring to become an FX artist for video games and I was wondering.. how should I go about recording my work? Should I use some screen capture program to capture my FX in unity? Then use another program to fix them all together? I've looked around but i'm still very unsure how to go about it

Fraps records losslessly at whatever resolution your application is running at so the footage will look just like it does on your screen. The main downside to using Fraps is that due to the quality of the footage, the filesize of your screen captures will be very large. To fix this, just import the footage into an editing program of your choice and compress it. I use Adobe After Effects but you can use anything you want, Sony Vegas is pretty popular among many because it is supposedly much easier to figure out how to use.
There might be an easier way of exporting footage out of Unity, but I think making a build of your project then just directly recording with Fraps, then compressing the footage using a different program is a much simpler process. Here are my render settings for Adobe After Effects if you're looking to get something out quickly (all 3 images are in one album.) There are probably some modifications you can make to them to improve your final quality even more but that's up to you. I'm no rendering expert haha.
Make sure to also install the xvid codec: http://www.xvid.org/

Good luck!
