Hey guys,
I was wondering how to get a diamond pattern to follow the shape of a pistol grip around an awkwardly curved surface. I've been searching everywhere and from what I've found people generally add this pattern on a cylinder, or pistol grip sides, but never the whole way around.
I'm using 3dsmax. I've tried an ffd modifier, bend modifier and they don't work out very well. There was a skin wrap modifier mention but I haven't found any tutorials that work through that.
So basically I'd need the pattern to wrap around the front of the pistol but very close to the shape of it. Any ideas guys?
Would it be easier to just pelt map it and do the pattern through photoshop?

I would just use conform. But you'd have to conform a bunch of flat shapes onto the handle then extrude it. Here's a tutorial:

Otherwise I'd just learn to use zbrush to do this.

It doesn't look that great but I suppose it is the best I can do.
