I'm doing some tree tests in maya, working with alpha channels and tgas.
That's the camera being tilted slightly. There's a MASSIVE amount of transparency issues / flickering, and I've googled and googled. I remember a long time ago this was an issue....
please don't tell me it's still an issue, is it?

I'm wondering, what if I created chains using an alpha plane, or even if I did a character and did hair? Do I just accept it?
I haven't used anything other than Maya, which is why I'm wondering.
edit: Here's an example I was following where he doesn't have the transparency sorting issue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=WfQ1sgpAzFU#t=304

does your diffuse have plenty of padding?
again im not a maya user so I dont know if this is a standard issue with maya.
Renderer > Viewport 2.0 > Option Box
that did it! I also found another way to do it in default rendering:
Shading --> Polygon Transparency Sorting
Thanks guys! This makes it way easier to model.
