I'm moving this week... but first thing I'll do once I get my shit settled is looking into making these.
Some of these would probably be cheap, some of them might be more pricey. I would want to make sure we had something quality for you all too. keep twisting out new ideas and we'll talk about it.
oh and i can absolutely print any of these on my 3d printer. I got a makerbot 2x. Coffee mugs are well within it's abilities.
I'd do some research before you jump into that little project too much. ABS is a bit on the toxic side. You might be able to use PLA, but I don't know how well it'd hold up to the heat of the coffee as it has pretty low thermal properties. I suspect you might wind up with some warping issues at the very least.

Maybe a PLA sippy cup top?
It's good that you brought this up Jackablade.
As far as I understand, powdered ceramics have become the best source material for being food safe.. However, they need a kiln & possible glazing touch to finish the product.
The mugs I've seen 3d printed, using this method, price up in around the $60 mark.
Oh when i said I could print them, I didnt mean as a product for everyone, just as a test of the form. I use ABS plastic in mine, but i don't think I would trust it with hot beverages very often.
the mug would need to be produced by some professionals. I would hope for a proper ceramic one too as a big food safe plastic one would feel... cheap.

I'd buy that. ^_^

In short yes. There are some rules though in regards to their glazing process. Saw something like edges must be about 2mm beveled or something.
OMG
Plz!
YES plz!
But could you bake the AO in first?
OMG and the wireframe!!!!
Edit:: Damn.. the one by Jeff is also badass. Reminds me of the style from Day of the Tentacle for some strange reason.
To whoever runs the Polycount store.. If you market some products towards coffee drinkers, prepare to make bank
lmao yes...^x10000
would love all of these. but i'd especially love the black and green wireframe one if the mug itself was faceted instead of smooth.
Can it have f'ed up perspective to match?
I would definitely be down to order a couple coffee mugs. Make it happen!
