I need someone to help me expand my texturing pipeline. I hear these three are great tools, but do I need them all? Substance designer or just Ndo/DDO? What are the huge differences between them, It looks like substance designer is just for making the initial base texture? Or does it have PS like tools inside of it? I like how DDO handles it, quickly making the base and you've still got all your PS tools right there...

So yes you can combine overlay normals for detail passes.
Substance does not come plug and play from the get go though you need to make nodes/templates be warned about this a lot people see the samples and think you can work on that kind of template from the start. Some are available now.
I'm kind of thinking we as a community (or well maybe some powerusers like me and rogelio) should create a nice library of "polycount" nodes.
ETA: nevermind, I just had to do a bit more research.
