Here is some of my first year uni work, its my first time using PBR textures and materials. I used max to model, Photoshop for textures and marmoset 2 for screenshots.
2048 textures used
Looks like that your whole weapon is made from 1 Material.
I cant see much differents between the parts.
I would say that:
-The camouflage is ABS Plastic, needs Roughness and turn down the metallic
-The Shoulder Support is Hard Rubber, turn down the spec
-The Rest ist Metal and the metal looks ok!
Hell yes this is sweet dude, I'm liking the exaggeration of edge scratches and oiliness, just one question are you using sampling on your screenshots? I see a few edge jaggys and am wondering if this is due to having no sampling on your pictures!
Unless you just gave it an oil bath, the metal shouldn't be that glossy. Most metal finishes are matted: that is, it's still 'shiny' in the sense that there's some specular, but the gloss width is large.
Normal map looks fine on the rifle, however, the magazine looks a bit wonky.
thanks for the feedback , hopefully it looks more metal like now, also i plan on re-baking the magazine as theirs something funny going on in the normal map.
thought i would post my final final version thats going to be submitted, just tweaked a few of the values so that it works better in multipul IBL setups
Looks great. Just enough subtle detail to make it look used, but it looks well taken care of and not abused. I noticed though with your metallic map, shouldn't the bolt and any scratches be white with everything else being black? The scope, action, barrel, suppressor, magazine, ect are all coated metal. The only part that is bare is the bolt.
thanks commador, I got the values the wrong way round at the start and used invert in marmoset for the first shots, but its all sorted out now

Have a look at the Shoulder Support from the G36:
