Vertex paint problems UDK

hey !
iam semi new to modeling/udk and ive made a very simple wall to test out vertex painting in UDK
i followed a tutorial but somehow something goes wrong with me
i press Ctrl and dragg on the wall ( i can see the circle ) but it doesnt paint anything on it ? if someone can help me that would be great, i have the nodes the same as the tutorial + i am pretty sure theres enough verts on the wall or does it need more?

Which value are you painting? You should only be painting in the red channel, which is just greyscale values. Change your value slider to pure black or white and see what happens.

you can also use the view --> R at the bottom of the mesh paint window to see if you are influencing the vertex color.
