Hello,
last few days, I tried to search some new interesting props and environment pieces to add to my portfolio.
From my last projects I realized that I always want to do too much or too big.
So I will try from now, this new year 2014
, to do things gradually.
First simple props, then little environments, etc.
So on this good resolutions this my first try.
A medieval training model from a concept of Ocaaa by Skazka.
I made a mix between the first one and the second with rocks.
Here is a first paint over with the Zbrush sculpt for some colours test.
What do you think ? Personally I think that something is missing, maybe more details ?

How did u do textures?
Thanks HammerFist3D2D.
Any suggestions about colours ?
I think it has the right amount of color variation, though. The brown spots on your metal really sell it.
so after some computer problems (I think it is time to change my computer),
this is the first pass on the LP with normal, diffuse and specular maps.
(Render with Xoliul shader 2.0 with 3dsmax 2012)
But I really would like more feedbacks to improve my texturing skills.
Thank you very much.
What you have right now doesn't actually function how it looks like its meant to. It looks nice, but I just find it hard to look at it and accept its purpose.
But thank you anyway.
And what games don't have some non functional or non credible assets.
Mario eat mushroom and walk through pipes. :poly142:
I still see 2 improvements you might want to do.
First you should decrease the occlusion between the planks a little bit, it's quiet black for the moment.
Then you should bake an occlusion map on a second UV set in order to get some occlusion for instance where the rope is attached to the wood. Of course that's only if you're not using realtime occlusion later.
although i get what you're saying about the quintain which is obviously the inspiration for it...
EDIT: loving the change you made to that metal. much nicer
I made some change with centre barrel proportion.
Some ffd box, ...
I will try now to improve metal specular.:)
Edit : A first test to improve specularity on metal parts.
what do you think ?
Small paintover just to show maybe what you could tweak. Needs more volume. The whole thing reads kind of flat.
Keep up the nice work man! Looking forward to more stuff like this.
after some minor change,
this is the final one.
For the next one, I think I will make a more science fiction prop.
Futuristic bag or other think like that.
Always base on a existing concept art.
Thanks for all your support.
