Q on Maya Edit UVs > Unitize

Eh all,

So, I'm modeling a large cliff rock (which started as a sub-divided/smoothed cube), and thought a good way to texture it would be to make use of the edit Uvs > Unitze function so I could use a seamless texture..

Problem: ALL the faces are randomly rotated by 90o and I probably have at least 700 faces to make all rotated the same way o_o Any shortcuts that anyone knows??

Thanks!

After Unitising the UVS, use Move and Sew UV Edges (with the edges selected, shift RMB up) to stich all the faces together. The tool will automatically align all the shells and try to maintain the original size and shape. Then refine the mapping using unfold and relaax.

It might be a better idea to not use unitize without massive cleanup afterwards... Having each polygon as its own UV shell is a bad idea to start with, not to mention a seamless texture would be incredibly dense using this method: an entire texture map displayed on each polygon is going to be incredibly noisy and/or incredibly repetitive, not to mention you can't scale the square UVs down for a lower resolution (it will break seamlessness).

I would follow antweiler's advice if you insist on using Unitize. Personally, I would recommend just doing some planar unwraps so the rock face is one continuous shell (if possible). You will still be able to apply a seamless texture and you can easily scale the UVs up and down to control texture density.
