Sooo.. lately i have noticed that I see some regular old 2d images with depth..
It seems to primarily happen with images that have bright blue in them.
For example, this images by snake85027 in the pixel art topic. The Blue BG feels like it has depth to it, making the tree feel like it pops out.
Or this one, The blue BG feels like it is further than my screen. Making the border feel tangible.
It happens with this one as well, but to a lesser degree.
The "options" window seems to pop out just a tiny bit.
I am just paranoid.. my brain playing tricks on me?..
I do not know what is causing this, and was wondering if anyone else has been experiencing this effect.

Now of course in these cases, who knows if it was intentional in the first place ! But I agree, it really works.
The actual effect of perceiving depth, from 2d images, is new to me.
These aren't random choices that artists use. They're very much designed to give the effect that you see. Often times they go completely unnoticed because they just look "right". When something looks "ugly" its usually because there are design elements that are out of whack.
This one is a trip :
It's just that those images actually make me perceive depth.. like looking at the Nintendo 3ds' screen.
Also that image.. doesn't give me that depth effect pior.
It does look like a bowl on a plate. But the actual 3d/depth effect is missing for me.
Dunno it's weird. I think my exposure to 3d screen over the past few years has my eyes/brain perceiving "depth" by essentially looking at a "flat" 3d screen all the time.
I often zone out in real life when something catches my eye and i'm forming a topological wireframe in my mind......
