Hey guys,
Here's my first piece for 2014
I decided to try something new for this one. The goal here was to experiment with a pipeline that allows me to quickly render very highpoly meshes from Zbrush and keep my interaction with Maya or Photoshop to its minimum for speed sake (some color and texture overlays and a few mechanical parts). I must say that everything went very smoothly, HUGE THANKS to Marmoset 2 for handling the whole thing perfectly, IN REAL TIME while not compromising on the rendering quality. (I think I might have finally found my (affordable) Keyshot alternative
)
Anyways, here's a quick bust I put together inspired by the Harry Potter's Goblin bank tellers

Is the hair just planes? How'd you handle that?
The hair is literally the fiber mesh groups generated inside Zbrush (as planes) and exported straight in marmoset. Since Zbrush auto UV them, it was pretty easy to apply a soft gradient ramp for opacity a play a little bit with some color variation (roots VS tips).
Were there any lag issues in marmoset from pulling in the hipoly...or did you decimate it first? I havent bought a copy of marmoset just yet, so I havent had a chance to play with it. The way it handled the hair sounds almost too good to be true.
NyneDown : Thank you! And to answer your question, NO LAG at all (and I was using 4k and 2k textures everywhere with no decimated meshes )
