Hello.

Yesterday I created my first sculpt . (attached)

Im writing this post not only to share it but also get some tips.

How do you start your human head sculpts... I followed a tutorial just for the base[ tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z5SroGW4D_o] then after i saw what the tools do, i figured my way out.

And what do you need other software like max and maya when u can do the modeling and texturing in zbrush ?

Basically id like to know your creating process.

Thank you.

You can use Zbrush whenever you please, but i would recommend using it for:
    • creation of base mesh when it's faster/easier (organic stuff...often)
    • adding details
    • experimenting (designs, concept art) [may not be your personal preference]

You need Max and Maya for:
    • hard-surface stuff
    • animating
    • rendering (sometimes)
    • base mesh creation (sometimes)
    • checking how everything fits together

For texturing I wouldn't recommend Zbrush as it:
    • lacks layer types (multiply, screen, overlay...)
    • doesn't have smudge tool (I thought it was possible by "painting" with move brush, but had no luck with that)
    • editing tools (scaling, rotating, perspective...)
    • can't save masks
    • harder masking
    • can't create "procedurally generated textures"
