Hello I dunno what happened , I even tried resettingthe center pivot of the object but the symmetry tool seems screwed that its symetrizing in a weird way , hoe can that be ?
I think monster is onto something, it looks like the "object" was scaled on one axis and that scale disparity between the other axes is causing some funny rotation issues. To check if this is true, right click the scale tool and set transform gizmo to world, if it's not 100, 100, 100 then this is probably why.
Reset xform should fix it but it will re-align your pivot to the world, if that doesn't matter have at it. If it does go into the hierarchy tab (three boxes linked to one bigger box) and reset scale, then reapply symmetry.
If that doesn't fix it then you'll need some chicken feet, about 20 lbs of rock salt and maybe a few sticks of dynamite to dislodge the demons from your machine. =P
