yeah I'd agree with the rest about the gold, I guess it would make sense if there was a very bright light source nearby that would cause the gold to really shine. Since the chest itself seems little old I would tone it down and rough the surface a little bit (as if the the golden plates were gently hammered on the wood - the scratches look fine) I would also experiment by adding some dust or something and try out different renders in Maya with HDR maps.
But thats what I would do. Other than that I like it!
It needs dirt around the edges of things. I would also vary up the wood planks, make some darker and some lighter. Dirty up the gold, reduce the spec and the gloss.
The thing that is throwing off the gold areas the most is how saturated the specular highlights are and the fact that the spec is too yellow. Also the diffuse for the gold could be darker. Here is a picture of a gold antique for ref.

I am in the process right now of adding in some dust and some leaking mud style stuff, and toning down the gold, I will post another pic later tonight of it so you guys can check it out, Thanks for the great ideas

Thanks for the ideas, I have begun kind of building up dirt along the edges and adding some darker spots and I will for sure be reducing the spec and gloss I have already been playing around with that today.

Thanks for that pic I have kinda been going off of newer gold items and I am starting to adjust the diffuse color of the gold and also the spec color, Thanks
