I created a basic concept for what I'm gonna aim for. Trying to find a happy medium with unique pieces and modular props.
I aim to focus on creating a small par 4 that has a good sense of 'flow'.
-So you start of at the bottom right with a simple bank shot around a rock.
-You then have a judged power shot over a steep garden bridge.
-Once the ball winds down to the bottom you have a shot that will go down a bamboo shoot... :poly124: To the left, Ying. To the right, Yang. If it goes down the middle, you must have perfect balance.
-The ball will then make it's way down to the final green, where you must perform a ramp shot in order to hit a peace gong and sink the ball into a hole at the bottom of a bowl.
I am quite far into my Block-out and will be posting images later on.
All crit's and comment's are welcomed. Well done if you read all that!
What I am digging here is the flow and organic putt greens in the level. The bubbly shapes are working so well and are kicking some ass with this theme.
Thanks Ivalice, that's what I'm hoping to go for. A nice relaxing course that emphasises the flowing movements and arrangements of a typical Zen garden. Looking through hand-painted texture tutorial's now. I aim to hit that Ni no Kuni style...
Agreed, the concept art looks great. I hope it works ok. I'd definitely try to get the ball running around the course. I know I had a little trouble with mine at first, but I didn't make sure it was zeroed and it can be a little surprising what happens with the ball.
Awesome concept work! To me it actually feels like a zen ode to mini golf, like something monks would actually build at a monastery for a little r&r rather than simply a garden that you clunkily plopped a golf hole into.
I'm also doing an asian themed course, so it's neat to see someone elses take on that idea. It looks like a solid layout, and should be fun to see brought to fruition. Good luck with the blockouts and such!
Love the layout, and how the course feels like it's flowing like water, though I am a little disappointed that you're not using the gong for some CRAZY bank shot that could shortcut the whole course if you're good enough :P

Let the best Zen course win.
Here's a small Pintrest board showing the kind of visual style I aim to achieve.

Looking forward to the blockout and what the physics do to the design
Will be interesting to see how it translates in-engine
Good stuff!
