Reserving my place here. Going to attempt something along the lines of Kentucky Route Zero (gradients, silhouette, etc). Moodboard/pinterest will come first. Then some sketches/concepts.
Thanks guys! Hopefully this turns out as well as I'm picturing in my head. Need to get to concepting. I'm doing my moodboard as a pinterest so it can be a bit more dynamic. Here's the link to the pinterest board:
The idea is an abandoned mini-golf course in the desert. So multiple holes will be visible. I think the actual hole will be slightly more complex. I'm thinking it will be more traditional though. So there will be a dinosaur statue in the background, windmill, etc.
Thanks everyone! The positive feedback gave me enough motivation to put Windows on my Mac and see this finished. Hopefully it turns out like I'm imagining. Aiming to have a mock up in engine this weekend. Still working on the actual hole design. I'm aiming to keep that more traditional.
Yeah good call about making the T-Rex larger Sean. Totally agree with that. I think I'll have to play around with the composition once all the elements are in. I'll be tinkering with that for the majority of this.
Main goals are to get the pipeline down and sort out the day/night cycle (or if that's even possible).
This is an in engine screenshot. Most things are flat cutout polys with texture gradients applied.
There's no lighting. Still have to sort out the dynamic lighting with shadows and getting the day/cycle sorted out.
Oh and the hole design too! Going to spend the week working on that. It's just temp right now to get the composition going some.
Currently the camera is an overhead camera while you're playing (like everyone else's). If it has to stay like that I'm going to have to rework this from that angle.
I noticed you have all these cool props and visual interest in the background but sadly you don't see any of it when you play the game. I was wondering if you plan on playing around with the camera position.
This is something I am anticipating to be a problem in my course as well. The default camera angle doesn't really allow the player to see where they should be aiming or the beautiful art depending how the course is set up.
Anyways great progress, Glad you decided to stay in!
Hey guys,
I should have explained the controls better. If you hit Z (on mobile there is a zoom icon). The camera will zoom out to see the course so you can aim your hole. This is part of the current camera setup. You also have control over the camera distance and angle. Just keep in mind the further you zoom out the stronger you will hit the ball since it is based off distance from the ball.
Totally agree with the camera stuff toxic_h2o. That's why I wanted to get this in engine asap.
Thanks JamesR! Yeah figured I need to sort that part out too.
Thanks Ryan for posting an update to the camera script. I'm going to try and adjust that. Ideally the camera would be fixed position. Once I get that going I can move things around and push the modeling more dramatic. Also I'll work on the dynamic lighting and time of day change.
Once all that's done if I have more time left I'll probably keep tweaking and adding to the hole design, more to come later this week.
Long time no update. Finally found some time to plug away at this. I added a smashed boat and adjust the rocks up front. Still moving things around and thinking about the composition.

Still working on the lighting (currently there is none).
