Having some issues with VRay and 3DS Max. I'm trying to work through this tutorial:
http://www.digitaltutors.com/tutorial/1083-Creating-a-Photorealistic-Bedroom-in-3ds-Max
Using Windows 7 64 bit, using Max 2013
He's using Vray to set up Cameras and materials, which I have no experience with. Still a little new to Max, getting ok at modeling but still struggling with materials. When I try to follow him and set up the vray material I can't see the options for the Vray materials in my menu when I pull it up from hitting the 'Standard' button to choose. The only way I can see them is by clicking 'show incompatible' in the dropdown menu, then they all show up black.
I googled the issue on some other boards and old threads and such and it seemed like it might be common on a 64 bit system and maybe I was running out of memory or something else trivial so I just plowed ahead. I can't see anything in the preview pane in the material editor to see what I'm working on, and as far as I can tell either the camera is rendering completely black (which may be another problem) or my material just isn't showing up at all when I try to apply it to an object.
I was getting an error message but I checked the thing for it to go away on repeated attempts that it would be rendered as black.
Ideas? What's going on here? Do I need to change the render setup to VRay like I would Mental Ray? I thought so, but there's no option on the presets to change anything so I'm not sure if I can even do that.

I guess it was under the "common" tab in the "render" menu. You need to scroll down to the buttom to change it.
