Maya orient joint error

Newb @ maya.

Following a rigging tute, stumped before I get started. Supposed to orient joint so that it matches the global axes; pelvis joint, done. Second joint, nothing seems to work.

Tried both YZX and YXZ all options - the orientation will not match global axes (Z forward, X to the side). I can get x pointing to the correct side, but z is backwards. Have tried using second axis world orientation = none.

Have read the help file. What am I missing?? Is there a rotation on the joint that has to be corrected before one of these magic settings will work??

Does the joint orientation really have to match world axis?

Thanks!

Huh. Guess I need to review everything 3 times. Tute shows the X axis orientation doesn't match global axis _direction_ but orientation matches. In other words, if X is the lateral axis and Z is forward, I'm good (I'm in the same boat as the tute anyway).

Nothing to see here folks, move along. These aren't the droids you're looking for..
