I like the detailing alot!
But I`m not a fan of the lensflares. They don`t fit in.
Mainly because they don`t lit anything. I think if the cold lights would somewhat saturate the shoulder pad and face towards the same cold blue color as the lensflares, they would fit in much better in this image.
I presume you had them added in ps?
Having established that, you should know that the rays are caused by bright light hitting the lens, and is more visible with longer lenses and/or small apertures. The shape of the lens flare - whether the star which you (partially) have or the various bright 'spots' - is determined by the shape of the iris blades. More simply, if there are 6 blades in the aperture (probably the most typical arrangement) then lens 'stars' will have 6 rays, and the flares will appear hexagonal (or like rounded hexagons).
So... if you absolutely, positively MUST have lens flares, then increase the number of rays.
I knew that lensflare was going to bite me in the ass lol. I was trying to get some volumetric light haze around the "lamps" and couldn't get a decent result any other way, i'll def. post a render without it though, just not worth the shaming.
Here's some close-ups btw. I'll get a keyshot render of the sculpt in a bit, my daughter is giving me no spare time haha.
PS, also got some weird shadow articfacts here and there, sharp edges in the shading that i cant get rid of.
thanks Torch, this is all handmade the old way. I've been looking at substance designer though, it's really a great tool and I've heard some people at work are really vouching for it. I'm pretty sure I'll use it on my next personal project.
