Hi Guys I'm working on a school vfx project for simulating Crashes, Particle Smoke and using Green Key footage.
My concept for this project is A girl walking into a garage to her car until suddently a car flashes on his light and start driving towards her. Then tries to show of by drifting around her but eventually fails and crashes into a Pole.
If anyone knows good tuturials or tips on smoke i'm really struggling with this. I need to make burnout smoke witch isn't going to be easy.
Or if you have any feedback what so ever. Feel free to comment.
I know that this is not important in terms of effect, but here's some suggestions on the editing of the animation:
Try to make cut (to a closer shot) just when the car hits the wall, and it should make impact bigger (in the eye of the audience), and then cut out to a wider shot, few frames before car completely stops.
Here is my old test on the car crash, and I am not showing you this, because I think it's good test (actually, it's pretty bad, and I much like your test, even in this early faze, then my abandoned test), but just to show you cuts that I've spoken:

You could also make some point of view shot from the drivers eye, when the car is spinning (you know.. lights in motion blur from the garage moving fast), and that should give it more dramatic feel.
As for the particles, I can't help before I know what software you use. If you're using Max, and if you have FumeFx, that would be the best bet. You might even don't need particles with Fume. If you want to do it with 3DS Max Pflow, then you just need to make particles to be emitated from the outer part of the wheel (with "inherit velocity" on), put some inverse gravity, and some turbulent wind for variation.
the camera in the car crash wip seems to do something very strange right at the beginning, might just be where the wip is cut though so it might make sense in the final piece, just seems a bit strange to me now.
also the glass shatter pattern isnt really very realistic as to how windscreens shatter - its usually much more radial, it's possible to see what looks like the edge loops in the model atm.
I've Been working on the Intro Animation a bit and i have been on location to make foto's for my background since the assignment requires that you not build your environement but use mattepaintings/ Photos Instead. I've Also been Bussy With Lighting witch is my Weakest point. I'm really bad at lightning and materials but it's still work in progress still got two weeks for the final. But also have another project that i'm working on in the main time. Lost and lotst of work. But here are the updates.
d4rk3lf: Wow that's some really nice advice your giving me. I'll try to do it in my final shot but i can't really change the camera point that much. Because i'm not rendering my crash in an 3D Environement. But i will try to switch between close up and fading out. Seems like a cool Idea.
And for particles right now i'm trying to do my particles in maya since I don't really got knowlegde of other programs who can give me the same result but still i'm also noobie in maya. I tried to do Fume Fx but it kept crashing I don't know if it was a bad Download or I was setting configurations to hight wich made it crash but i switched to maya.
As for Pflow uhm i don't think i'll get the result that i want with it or mayby not just that easy.
But really thank you for the feedback
@ tharle: I was actually thinking that this would be almost the final camera but after d4rk3lf i'm probably going to adjust it some more.
As For the shattering glass you are totally right on that part and i'm gonna redo the glass. I found a new script called "vorofrag" wich should make the cracks looks like glass or at least i hope so.
Thank you for your comment
I also just want to say if i'm not following your advice or comment it's probably because i'm on a tight time schedule. But all comment is welcome if i can't apply it now I can apply it in my next project. So feel free to comment.
This is a fist wip of the composoting the second shot really needs to be re rendered the lighting really bugs me for the as for the rest of the shots i'm pretty happy about them.
Now just need to do some post effects. Colors, Blurs, grain, Noise, exct. There are going to be 2 or 3 more shots added in this to and also the final crash is not finished yet.
It's been since college since I've done any compositing/greenscreening but I'll see if I can help. The key on the green screen pull has a really hard edge, try to feather/soften the roto on that edge to get a more believable composite. (maybe add a small amount of motion blur to her as well) The lighting is also a little off on the composite of the green screen into the background, maybe mess with some color correction/balance to blend it in better.
The car's materials look very plastic. The glass and the paint both need some sort of environment/HDR reflection to sell the materials. I also feel like the side shot of the car driving through the garage is way too fast, it makes it feel like the car is going 100 mph in a very short amount of space. Maybe tweak that some more for better timing. It's coming along . I can try to offer some more advice if you have specific questions.
i'm using fusion for the keying don't really know how to do it better I tried my best to go the most out of it but i'll try do to revisite the Green key footage if it's really showing in the final result.
I haven't done any color corrections yet or blurs I really think this will make a difference into making the character fit more in the scene. I will still play with it to try to get a good result.
As for car I actually know that it looks kinda plastic I didn't really do a good job for a lightning setup but we haven't got much time for this assigment and the assignement isn't realy about lighting. My teacher saw it today for feedback he said just get the rest good first and You have time left over redo the lighting. Just the second shot really needs to be redone it just bothers me. As for Hdri I haven't got the time to rerender the scene. But still thank you for the tip.
If you have any tips how i can get that edge on the greenkey footage away feel free to tell me. I work with Fusion or After effects.

Very nice progress btw.

All in all, great test, can't wait to see update.
