Hello.

So I have an interior design project.
I want to create a texture without much polys for the exterior of the building.

I have 3 images attached :
Image 1 is a model I made on sketchup, because it was not a final presanation . But you get the idea of what i want to do. I got critics because it looked too heavy.

Image 2 , sort of describes what i want to do, i need the rocks to be randomly distributed but still be in order. ( thats just a preview image, i dont want them to be flat, i want it to be like a cave)

Image 3 is a rock i did in Max, but its too high poly , and as u can see in the sketchup model i may need more than 100 stones.

The question is : Is there any way i can do this in low poly and not having to place the stones one by one ?

Can't you distribute the stones on the high poly using a particle system in max?

You could do it in high poly with masks, then use decimation master to give you a low poly.

If you have Mudbox, create your Lowpoly "cave" in 3Ds Max + make a quick unwrap. Save as FBX or OBJ (obj will lose all smoothing groups) and import into Mudbox. Select the projection brush and a - prefarably - tiling rock texture from your library and simply paint it on! If you need just a bit of bump you can convert the diffuse/color layer in Mudbox to a "bumpmap" (rightclick on the diffuse layer, bottom option is "bumpmap").

If you need more detail, export your diffuse layer (rightclick on it, "export layer to photoshop" and use either Ndo2, Crazybump or Njob on it to make a Normal map for the texture.

Estimated time for the whole operation: under one hour.

    Fast enough? ;)
