I'm playing around with converting animations from another source game to TF2.
I know the bone names are different. So I renamed all the bones from the animation to match TF2 standards. The animation works fine but if I import the TF2 character arms over the model, it screws up.

Is there a way of fixing this issue? Maybe it's just not compatable, but I thought I would ask. Also, I know I could animated the proper arms but I'm not good at animating. If I try to copy the animation from one to another, it still screws up.

it's hard to fix but I have done it before. You might be able to import 'with y up' or something.
Or you can unskin, edit every bones rotation to match originals, reskin. This is a very time consuming and painful process.
Best is to try and get them imported with correct orientations.
I've tried importing them using Y Z and X orientation and it's still broken. It's a shame I cant copy the animations but without the orientations. Such a shame.
