(Maya)
hey guys, first real post on these forums. I'm fairly new to Maya, and I'm just wondering, what is the best way to get an object to glow in Maya?
I want to achieve an effect something like what you see in the first 30 seconds of this video

I've been able to achieve some glows through mental ray, but I'm having difficulty getting the objects themselves to cast a glow around themselves as well. I know there's a glow option in the special effects tab of lambert, but it isn't really working for me, it just floods the inside of the object with overlapping glows it seems, and it doesn't use final gather either.
Here are some examples of what I've been able to get working so far:
Also, how do I get the light from glowing object to ignore each other? I tried to figure it out under light linking in the relationship editor, but I don't know what to do from there. Thanks

perhaps try one of these methods within maya? http://nealbuerger.com/2012/02/create-neon-glow-effect/
And yeah, I saw that tutorial already. It's an option I guess, I was just wondering if it was possible through mental ray, or some other way to make it look a little better. I might just be crazy tho
