Hello everyone, so I am new to Polycount and texturing/modeling in general for that matter. I recently just created a couple of 2D textures and I was hoping to get some feed back- such as critiques, advice, or tips.

I used PS to paint the 2D textures, the "Mossy Brick Wall" though is a photo manipulation.

Any resources or feed back would be much appreciated- I feel I have a long way to go, but just creating these was quite enjoyable.

Hey man, I would definitely pour over the texturing tuts in the wiki: http://wiki.polycount.com/TexturingTutorials . You'll be amazed at how much awesome information there is within there. I'm also guessing Mr Choi was asking if you had a tablet, as your current slime and wood textures are coming across pretty flat - with strange uses of hard and soft edges thrown in there. Could be wrong though, again I'd look over the wiki again to get a better understanding of hand painted textures, contrast, and how lighting will affect your textures. Goodluck!

If you enjoy making textures then getting better will be a breeze if you make the attempt. the wood looks kinda like it got a gradient going on dark on top and bright on bottom, not good for tiled textures, if thats what you plan to do atleaset. The slimy tile floor is sorta just some green blob with a platic wrap filter on it, then grey squares painted on top? not very good sense of lighting direction on that one either, you should use a hard brush for the floor too because the bricks are kind of looking weird with those transparent edges. I'd definitely recommmend looking at some good references while painting next time and avoid using filters when your starting out.

@genwu: Thanks you for the tutorials I'll defiantly look over them, and the advice you gave about trying to give them bit of dimensionality. It's something I want to do to , but I guess I'm a bit worried when I derive that normal and spectacular maps how the lighting will affect them being new- the idea's still a bit foreign.

@whitetan: I think looking at other photos for reference would be a great idea it's something I should of considered at the start. You're right also after painting the slime I added a plastic wrap feature over it, though It seemed to come out a little strange when both the normal and spectacular maps are applied. I often paint soft as I guess I lack the confidence or ability to use strong brushes well. I'll try this time though, while incorporating a more definite sense of lighting.

Thank you all three of you, I really appreciate you taking the time to comment.
