squid's concept drawing

Hello! I'm new here, but I've had ideas for Dota cosmetics bubbling away in my brain for a while. Finally plucked up the courage to come over here! I'd love to work with the people here to make them into actual in-game items (how do I 3D art). I am starting off with just a single item, a blade for Naga that I've been mulling over a long time. I call it The Lucky Fish Blade. I'm open to any suggestions and criticisms, this is my first foray into this so help me learn!

Hopefully I'll come back with more stuff as I get my ideas onto paper (or... Photoshop).

An idea for a Drow Ranger set I had. Again, any suggestions or feedback is appreciated!

Hello and welcome :D Really nice to see more people doing concepts around here :)

Now onto the concepts! You have a pretty nice style, and I love it! Cool way to get some fish themes on the Naga weapon, but I think that it's maybe a bit too cartoony? With some tweaks it could look really cool. Personally I'd make it look more like an actual sword made of steel by changing around some colors and also make the fish look less wavy and happy.

About the Drow set, again the style is great! But there may be some problems splitting this up. Drow currently have 7 slots, which are Arms (bracers and stuff), Back (capes), Head (hats and hair), Legs (shoes), Misc (quiver/etc), Shoulder and Weapon. There are definitely some that work just fine, but having a big robe would make things complicated to mix and match in-game. I'd suggest you to break it down into separate pieces instead of making everything too connected. It looks really good, but I'm not sure if it would work very well.

I wish you the best of luck! Would love to work with you on the future!

Hi belkun, thanks very much for your comment - it was exactly the sort of thing I was looking for!

I will definitely work on the fish blade's design, I see what you mean about it looking cartoony. I'll try and rework that one. As for the Drow set, thanks so much for that info. I guess it's so easy to just draw a hero looking the way you picture in your head, but as a Dota workshop newbie, I hadn't thought about how it actually translates to the item slots. Will consider that as I rework it, and start sketching out my other ideas. It would be great to work with you at some point!

I dunno why I stayed up so late doing this, but I promise I'll stop posting stuff now! Thought I'd look properly into the item slots etc, and go for the Chinese New Year theme. Lina was the first hero I thought of for this, and the design is based *loosely* off the Chinese phoenix. I know it's probably a bit fussy... I'm thinking probably lose the arm scarves (they were meant to evoke wings, but it's probably too much). Again, any feedback appreciated. Right, I'm going to bed...

I actually quite like the idea of the Drow set. If you are somehow able to separate it into the different slots, I think it's going to look nice.

There are some things that you can improve on the design though, like adding more details to it instead of just making it another generic medieval outfit. Maybe have some clan emblems or add pouches and accessories to make the set more interesting. Color-wise, I think it's very bright and saturated for Drow. Darken it and make it less saturated.
