I'm beginning my exploration of CryEngine but am too comfortable with my navigation within UDK. Is there a way to make mouse button-navigation within CryEngine the same as navigating UDK?

What? they do work the same way, hold down the right mouse button and move around with WASD.

I'm hoping for UDK's mouse-only navigation. Such as LMB moves along Z axis, both mouse buttons move along X&Y axis and RMB rotates camera.

With HP on that, when working with older versions of unreal that navigation drives me nuts.
I don't think you can make crynengine work like that :)

yeah its possible to navigate like that (quote from a document i'm writing right now):
You move around the viewport by holding down the right mouse button and looking around with the mouse, while pressing the WASD keys to move similar to a first person shooter. Similar to popular shooter games you can hold down Shift to move at a higher speed.
To alter the speed of your movement (via the WASD keys) you can set the movement speed at the bottom of the Viewport in meter per second. The default is 1 m/s, valid values range from 0.01 m/s to 100 m/s.

You can use the middle mouse button to move the camera left and right, up and down, relative to your current screen rotation.
By pressing down middle and right mouse button at the same time, or ALT and right mouse button, or scrolling your mouse wheel, you move forward or backwards, orthogonal to your current screen rotation.

If you select an Object you can press [Go to Selected Object] and then Orbit the Object by pressing down ALT and the middle mouse button.

It is a shame we have no norm for navigation in 3d applications, everyone (devs) freaking thinks their new concept is the best thing that could happen (but is actually not better just different) and is worth breaking habits , which is just ridiculous.

Mudbox and UVLayout do it right, offering different shemes from the start.
UDK drives me insane, I forget how to move in it every time I reopen it >.>

UED2 was the first '3d nav program' I learned back then..can move so much more accurate with the mouse controls than any other program.
Pressing right mouse button and moving the camera with WSAD is just not accurate...zooming/moving to 1 specific blade of grass is possible with UDK's setup if u master it, but impossible with WSAD movement...
It's awesome that u can move/duplicate meshes with the same controls that the camera uses by holding control/alt or shift too.

I too would love to see this in Cry engine..
