keeping up to date with industry techniques ?

New here so sorry if I have missed a post about this.
I was wondering how to do people (in-industry, students etc.) Keep up to date with the latest used practices from the games industry and/ or film for other people who may be interested in this area as well.

Well, I just try to keep an eye on forums like this, and see what new trends and techniques are popular. If there's a new workflow or something, I will try it out, and it may become a permanent part of my workflow.

For me it is a totally organic thing, I am always inspired to give cool things I see a try, it's not like I'm making a big conscious effort to use modern techniques.
