So I've been playing Uncharted 3 and The Last of Us lately, and I noticed how amazing the peeling paint textures are in-game. I can't seem to figure out how one would go about making something along these lines:
I would try it with some polys that you could place like decals on the walls. Another option might be sculpting those things and using POM shader to make them look more realistic?
I remember seeing some peeling paint in an article along with some other things. Part of it can be decals or floating planes, the other cool part are alpha cards that are modeled to make the peeling paint coming off from the wall.
I think the example was with wall paper and how it was peeling off from the wall and curling, it was alpha cutout to have the edges ripped and torn.
