So in an effort to become really good at portraits I'm undertaking a 100 portrait challenge, hoping to do one or two a day - not finished polished renders just 30-60min sketches. I'm treating this like an online diary, just a place to track my progress, although feedback would also be nice,
Thanks

As u progress and refine ur process, try and work the model holistically, meaning going with each brush over all the focal areas equally and consistently.

Really cool faces already.
#005 - Been on holiday this week so I haven't been able to get any done, back to it though!

AllyAlbon: Thanks, I try to avoid older characters, I find them a lot easier that younger ones and I like to stay outside my comfort zone, but I did an older one today
jacksteel: Thanks!

Just out of curiosity, i'm curious to see how you would tackle hair on them too, as its something i have no idea how to do fast, let alone correctly lol.
Keep it up!
noniol: Thanks man I'll try some hair on some future ones, tbh I'm not sure how I'd go about it either but it'll be fun to have a go I reckon it would have to be really blocky to fit within a time frame!
Missed a few days with festivities/family things... Possibly going to try to get a time-lapse of these from now on, knowing I'm recording really helps to keep me focused and it's really interesting seeing how I'm spending my time watching it back

(not sure if a .gif is a good idea, is it worth waiting for it to load?)

where are you getting the reference images from?
Great work bro. What's your Draw->Angle of view set to?
Looking great as well!
INKMAN002: Thanks man, I'll definitely try to, I haven't ever attempted to sculpt a kids face so I'll give that a shot at some point!
scapulator: Thanks! A variety of places, friends, google, celebrities, I don't really stick to one source The earlier ones used very little reference, it was more about making them look real than a likeness. I'm thinking of sculpting more well known likenesses in the future, it's a bit scarier though! Thanks for stopping by
AzureXIII: Uhhh 17.2 I like to keep it almost orthographic for portraits, too much FOV really distorts the sculpt!
Fomori: Thanks man, that's the idea!
Callesw: Thankyou

Great work, keep at it!
#022 - Kinda unhappy with this one, got a really unreal feel to it, didn't really get the basic forms down which is the main reason for it's failure I think...

My favorite so far is #18, almost entirely because it looks drastically different than the others. A lot of the other ones have some sort of...samey feel to them, though I'm having difficulty determining why. ...I feel like it's something with the eyes, like all of them look really tired whereas #18 looks more focused and thoughtful.
I also agree that popping even some real basic hair shapes on them could help a lot.
#024 - Pretty happy with this one, feel like the likeness was almost there, only a few inconsistencies Struggling to find time to do these so I think they'll be done sporadically over the next few weeks - until work and some personal things calm down a bit!
