So I've been lurking around here for quite a while now, and have seen a great many wonderfully talented (and not so talented...) people come through. So the question comes to mind: what it is that drives/motivates you to do 3d/2d art? I really enjoy it mostly as a hobby, not planning a future in it, but I still try to improve. I just cant seem to find any motivation to do some actually drawing or painting... I got that nasty perfectionist trait and when I see really good art it almost discourages me from continuing. Thats just me though, not really trying to whine, just a part of myself I'm not to proud of. So again just for the sake of repetition: what motivates you?

For instance, one of the things that used to work a lot for me was going back to the games that made me wanna do game art, DeusEx 1, Max Payne, Doom 3, etc. I feel a huge adrenaline rush and motivation when i remember what made me wanna pursue this in the first place.
Also, there's little things that you're gonna learn that help a lot, for instance a couple days ago I created a tumblr account, and I feel that just going through other peoples work give me a huge boost in motivation, because pretty art is always pretty! Also, looking at art, both bad and good makes you grow as an artist almost as much as making it.
I've done it for too long, and I am trying to realize there was no point.
Problem being, if the Mumford and Sons lyrics hold any truth to them "Where you invest your love, you invest your life," I'm making my life about game development.
And that's a terrifying thought.
You shouldn't get disheartened from looking at others works, rather you should be stealing their knowledge and implement it into your own work like an evil genius!!!!!
Aww man, right in the feels.
My life and career are centered around game development and I'm pretty damned happy about that. It's like I won the lottery.
You're going to have work the majority of your life to support yourself whether you want to or not. Wouldn't you rather enjoy what you do?
"Stop whining and get your shit done!"
I'm just having fun.
