Hi everybody, I would like to share the last work I did in my spare time.
A friend on mine that works at Weta Digital (yes, the company behind Lord of the Rings), asked me to help him on a personal project, so he gave me a couple of sketches of a creature, and this is what I came up with.
Be aware that this has nothing to do with Weta, it's a PERSONAL work.
This is a low-poly model. It can be rigged and animated in real-time.
How many hours did it take start to finish? Do you follow any of Eric Keller's work? I'm guessing so.
It's hard to tell how many hours it took, I worked on it on my spare time, sometimes 2-3 hours, sometimes 5-6 during weekends. Roughly I would say it took about 20-25 hours, but I can't tell for sure.
I have no idea who Eric Keller is, so no I didn't follow his work. :P
hey man i checked your screens on the tb2 thread and noticed you have Ao inside the mouth have you tried switching that for a cavity map inside marmoset's cavity slot? if you use it mostly on the specular cavity slider i think it will look a lot more natural anwyay it looks great

Thank Azkur, actually I DO have the cavity map. However I'm not entirely happy how the normal map looks in Marmoset 2.
Btw, thanks all for the comments guys!

Nice work. I like the pose, colors, and detail (including the hairs or cilia).

You might also play with giving a slight iridescent sheen to the shell; even dark beetles will often have a semi-iridescent shell.

Thanks man!
Thanks for the suggestion, however the design was already decided, I just executed the job.
The saliva is the icing on the cake.
Straight to my inspiration folder.
And here it is, running in real-time in Marmoset 2 beta
