Hey all!
My name is Rob and I'm a concept artist as well as a big Dota fan. I've been tossing around the idea of creating some items as a way to keep busy after work. I'd also like to use this as a way to teach myself Zbrush and all the other bits of the process I never get to touch at my day job. I've been creeping these forums the past few weeks and picking up some really awesome insights and seen a ton of inspirational work. A warning though--I haven't done any meaningful 3D work since school so this should be a really interesting train wreck for you all to witness haha.
I figure it makes the most sense to start with a few single weapons before jumping into a full set so I've been working on a bunch of quick concepts to see what I want to move forward with, focusing mainly on big shapes and fitting the default character. So far I've tossed together a Rubick staff just because I love him and also a few Omni maces to go with his new color scheme. It's been a total blast so far. I'm also open to the idea of collaborating with people if I have the time. I think as of right now I can offer help with concepts, (potentially) texturing, and promotional art.
Anyways, here are a bunch of jpegs.

Hoping to dig into zbrush today and potentially a new painting or two to break things up

A1mb0t, google hangouts are great thing. When I'm learning software I tend to just try to figure it out through trial and error or at least attempt to go and find the information myself. I find the information just sticks in my brain a bit better. I definitely don't want to clog up the forums with a lot of little questions, but if I get really stumped I may just drop by a hangout.
This was test run #1. I've been messing with zbrush for a week just using tools on spheres and getting used to the insane UI but I've never attempted to make anything. I cheated my block-in a lot (I use modo because I use it a lot at work) thinking I could cleanly adjust things once I got it into Zbrush, but it didn't work out and some forms got really mushy. Also started messing around with some sculpting and quickly found that all of my little marks became meaningless when zoomed out.
I went back to my base and made sure my shapes where exactly how I wanted. Learned the importance of a solid block out, at least until I'm more familiar with zbrush. Going to try the sculpting again tonight and aim for more meaningful details.
And for content's sake I did a few more thumbs before bed. Will do a few more and try to paint one or two of these soon. I realize there are millions of Axe submissions already but I just love the idiot.
