It doesn't look bad but I have the feeling you're spending a lot of polygons on something rather simple, and it could be pushed a lot further. Got some wireframes?

i was going to just make his body a 8x8 sphere but for some reason, God only knows why, i decided to model out edge loops for eyes and mouth and etc... XD
and what would you recommend i do to further push the model?
The poly count looks fine to me. If anything, you could probably throw in a few more loops around the eyes and eyelids for animation purposes as that's where a lot of your character is going to be coming from.
I am thinking mostly at the middle, that point in the center of his face looks problematic.
I know you probably got a lot of references but perhaps you missed the little white dots inside of him, I was thinking you could try to add those in the textures?
Or if you can get away with it, make a copy of him shrink it inside of himself slightly and use opacity and create "two" textures one solid one 80% opacity like this reference: http://images.wikia.com/wreckitralph/images/d/d3/Sour_Bill_05.jpg
You can sort of see within him and that is a great effect to try to fake/recreate.
That is my best guess on how to do it anyway probably a better one but I just threw you a bone.
@jackablade - yea good point, definitely would need more edge loops around to eyes to make it animate better, yea at one point i would like to animate my characters XD would be cool to see them move haha
