Did you not read the rest of my post? I'm all for learning new things. I just thought some people might want to have a finished scene as their goal, that's all. I'm happy to go with whichever though.
Actually for both of your reasons the prop scene is great.
It's lots of different assets to work on in a short time and to keep them all consistent, texture sizes varying so some objects don't look higher resolution than others, multiple materials and different shapes to unwrap. On top of that people who don't have much time could make a less cluttered scene and still have something they could put in their portfolios.
I'm really interested in this one as well. I really enjoy prop modeling, and the contrast between the lantern's warm, cozy lighting and the chilling blues on the windows and crawling up on the planks is lovely.
