if you can take the time and absorb everything people talk about in there. look at the examples and understand the concepts they preach. I could learn some more from it as well. lots of information to be absorbed in there.
Or you can do it with creasing, if it is supported further in your workflow. ( If you just want to render in MentalRay no problem, if you want to take it to an engine or another renderer argh )
I always use creasing when I can for this type of problem because it is soooooo much easier.
