Decided to create a sketchbook on here to get more crits and feedback on my work.
I do have a blogger that gets a lot of views but no feedback.
My first work I'm showing is part of challenge I've set myself to concept and make a throwing axe game model by this Saturday (16th). I recently made a Lionmouth Sword which can be found on an other
thread.
Taking what was said I would like some opinions on which concept to go with for this challenge and what can be possibly be added or changed to the concepts. A lot that was said about the Lionmouth Sword was the design but the stage I was at I was reluctant to change such but take it in consideration with the next project.
Which concept should I go with, 1 or 2?
Because time is of the essence ideally want to start the sculpt tonight and finish it by tomorrow afternoon.

I like the grip of the first and the blade of the second, maybe you could make some combination, if not then I would go with nr. 2, I also would make it more dark in color.
I was playing around with the colours and yeah I agree maybe a tad darker.
I was thinking about changing the part holding the blade on #2. I'll do a few tests and post the results.
I took the blade of 2 and the handle of 1 and mashed them together and then adjusted the holder too.
What you think?
This morning has been aiming to get the high poly done.
After rendering it I've highlighted a few issue that I'm going to fix.
By today I want the high poly finsihed and the retop started.
Got anything to add to what I've already said then let me know.
Now to retop!
I will keep an eye on this thread just in case anyone posts some feedback.
Once unwrapped and baked I'll post an update.
what are you using for the retopo?
Thank you very much Nut. I am using Topogun.
I used ZBrush for it a few time but often it adds an extra loop of edges which is a big pain.
Should have the bake done in a few hours or so.
Low Poly with bake and low opacity ao map.
Got the polycount down to 875 which I'm happy with.
Got a few problems to sort out but other then that I'm rather stoked.
Not too keen on the texture so I may end up do it all again tomorrow.
I am ahead on schedule for completing this by the end of Saturday so I can afford to doing the texture again.
I'll double check in the morning though, could be the fact I'm shattered and grumpy that I think the texture is shit.
i don't like the zbrush retopology tool either, so i tried 3Dcoat and maya have that new modeling features that allows you to retopologies (i prefer 3Dcoat)
didn't tried Topogun yet.
About the colormap, i would do it more dark and dirty, some more scratches and dried blood or something like that. And the pendant ring is to small, from the distant you wouldn't notice it, maybe it would look better if you do it more bulky.
Whatever, you makes good job c:
I was thinking the same thing with the pendant. I'll sort it tomorrow. I have the whole day to finish it. Just tweaking the brightness and colours at the moment.
I have to keep into consideration that the spec will brighten things up a bit.
Thanks for commenting on the normal, its actually something I'm unsure about. I'm currently rendering with mental ray but will be eventually rendering in marmoset toolbag.
In other news I've already started drawing up some designs for my next weapon. I'm going all out, this will be the last weapon I do this year, I think. I said that after my last one though ha.
Finished, however if anyone notices a pressing issue I'll go back and fix it.
On to the next one, for a bit anyway go on holiday on Monday.
Planning for it to work with a character my friends making but we'll see if the concepts work together if not it will be me just carrying on with this.
I will end up with 2 weapons, one with a hack like blade and the other with a slash type of blade.
So to make it easier for myself when it comes to modelling I've made a version with no skeleton decoration.
Tonight will be getting a final concept sheet together.
I'm not too sure at the minute about this concept.
Honestly I think this may be the last thing I concept myself.
I'm a 3d artist not a concept artist.
Thinking of leaving the colour out of it and just crack on with the sculpting after I do an other pass and add some more character to the them.
Some sketches I did to help me a bit.
Still needs a lot of work, a few straps around the skeleton need a bit of work.
The skeleton will have chains and a few bolts going through the joints.
Thanks
May do just a little bit more of fine detail and then its get everything ready for retopologizing.
