on the brightside, they said that they didnt have any money to pay him before he sent them the track, rather than after two weeks of working on stuff...Another reason that I dont miss the miniatures industry
Yeah, I saw this a few days ago. The behaviour really is pervasive when it comes to music, even more so than game art. The trouble is there also aren't enough musicians appropriately valuing their work - and newbies (and even experienced people wanting to shift across media) offering their services for free when perhaps they shouldn't be.
Heh. A friend of mine got a similar request last month:
Hi there,
My sisters recently opened her own skin care and beauty salon and is looking for someone to create a flyer that advertises her business. If any of your design students have some spare time and would like to add to their portfolios, it would mean a lot to us if you could please be so kind as to forward my sister's contact details to them.
Unfortunately, we can't afford to pay the designer for the work. But at least he or she will be able to gain some work experience and add something to his or her portfolio.
These are my sister's details:
<redacted>
Thank you and kindest regards,
<redacted>
...and his reply:
Hi, <redacted>,
I've recently noticed that my pores have gotten really out of hand. I'm really hoping your sister will help me out with that.
Unfortunately I can't afford to pay her for the session, but at least she'll earn some handy work experience. I'll even let her take photos to use in her advertising. Please let me know when I can drop by for my appointment.
In a similar vein, has anyone had people emailing them as if they were asking how much you charge for a job only to find out it's an individual trying to get a gauge on how much they should be asking for themselves? Really pisses me off.
Daz Dillinger is currently busy promoting his upcoming album Weed Money, but is best known for his work with the Dogg Pound.
Daz kindly dedicated a moment of his time to speak with us: "I am terribly vexed with Rockstar. To have the sheer audacity to insinuate that I am a below par entertainer is quite frankly... scandalous. We shall meet sirs... on the hustings!"
