----

Hi there, I'm trying out texture painting. I generally have no idea what I'm doing, and I'm trying stuff out a bit randomly. Here is the original concept I drew, and below where I am in the 3D scene. I'd like to make a real-time version of it, either using Sketchfab, or maybe an animated one with Threejs.

Any idea for the sky ? For the nest ? Also, critique welcome

I think the droopy eyelid on the concept gave the bird a little more personality. He looks like he's just woken up and is having his morning coffee.

I second Jackablade's thoughts. Also you should tweak the head shape into something more like your concept. Set the flow of the throat to a nice arc and shape the back of his head in to a nice bulge - just like in your concept.

I like your paint job on the bird, but the stone looks almost to realistic. Try an easier more cartoonish look like in the concept again. This will give your image a more uniform look.

Also the rock could use some extra polys at the bottom, which looks to edgy.

As for the clouds, use the sky map you've posted as a backdrop and create decals for the clouds. You can use cloud texture from your concept.

Thanks a lot, Jackablade and mkZ3R0! I agree with your comments actually. Good idea for the cloud decals, I'm going to try this out. I hope I can update the thread with the results soon.

Update, I redid the rock entirely, and tweaked the bird's head. Also, I started refining the feathers a little bit.

For the rock, I thought it would be easier to sculpt it and decimate it. Do you guys think it's overkill for such a low-detail geometry ? I find sculpting easier to define the shapes - when I model, I find that I worry too much about topology, even though I'm still searching for the right shapes. It must be possible to be fluent enough in modeling to explore the shapes directly in low-poly, but I'm definitely not there yet :p

Ok, finally I got to finish that thing.
I ended-up not putting individual clouds, instead I refined a little bit the skydome. I tweaked the face a little bit more, and refined the feathers. I was not very inspired for the nest so he's just sitting on hard rock... Thanks for the comments !
