Studying Games Art at the University of Herts; my corner room scene project is based on a scene from the Great Gatsby. This movie has some seriously beautiful set design and hopefully I can replicate some of it
Quick update, have been texturing for a while and it's looking like this so far! Needs SO much more work, but it's looking a little better than it did 3 days ago which is a plus.
This is deffinately a very good choice of scene!
You've deffinately made a very good start on this. It seems from the reference that the columns and all the right wall is a bit taller than in your scene. I'd quickly double check the proportions
Good luck with this, it'll be very interesting to see how it develops. Are you planning on taking it into a game engine?
-Window frames need surrounding frame. Right now they look like prison windows.
-Arched openings on 2nd floor could be scaled back a bit. I think they project out a little too far.
I agree with the above comment about the windows looking more like prison bars than windows right now.
Another thing you should really reconsider is the amount of grunge on the upper arched walls. Gatsby is about absolute pristine perfection- a clean and exaggerated picture of the wealthy. What you're going towards right now looks more like an abandoned mansion rather than one that's meticulously maintained.
I think that you could add more polys to the triangular window frames at the top. They are pretty big pieces and the faceting stands out a bit right now. Looking great though!
Looking good so far, wondering what your plans are for the lighting. From the source images you could work with outdoor lighting shining in, or more chandelier lighting from inside, thoughts?
Thank you so much for all the awesome feedback Took all your comments into consideration andf changed the windows so hopefully they now look less prison-like. I also added some more polys to areas but think I could probably add some more!
@ThinkKlinck - I've now moved onto lighting! I'm thinking about remodeling my chandeliers as they weren't really working within the scene....so at the mo playing with outdoor lighting Here's what i have so far :
This has deffinately improved loads! I think there's too much bloom on those candles and they could use with an orangy tint. Some hard edges on the top windows too, but that's an easy fix.
You might want to have a look at Colour lookup table, might help with the colour gradint etc.
Hay I also studied Games at Herts. Was pretty fun I hope you're enjoying it. For crit I would say it looks as though some of those curtains have modeling errors and need a looking at. Id also change the texture on them to make them stand out from the marble walls. Those stained glass windows at the bottom could do with some nice light showing through them casting some pretty colours on the floor. I don't know how far along you are in the course but id try adding some nice glossy reflections to the floor like there is in the reference image. Keep going with it your progressing lots!!!

I see what you mean about the columns! Hopefully I've managed to fix them a bit. And yes I have! Here's a quick update of the model in UDK.

Keep pushing, this is looking very promising!
