3ds Max modeling help Please

Hello,
I amtrying to figure my mistake that I made. I have tried this on several different projects. I draw a head with eye, nose and mouth holes. When I do whatrver is behind the head shows through the holes that are only on one side of the head. Here is my latest one. these are the steps that I did to complete to where I am so far. I made sure the box behind is not touching the head. Also there is not a hole in the backside of the head. Can anyone help me to learn the correct way to get the look I want. I am sorry if thr pic does not load. it is mt first try.
1 Create a box
2 Covert it to editablt poly
3 I use the shift draging on the edges to get the shape I wanted
4 Weleded the vertexes that were needed
5 Then I cute the polygons shapr for the eyes, nose and mouth.
6 I extruded the desired poltgons into head
7 Where the mouth and nostrsils holes were I deleted the the polygons
8 I used a multi sub material. It has 3 materials
9 Then I used turbo smooth
