I was recently contacted by a recruiter for the first time.
Just wondering if there is anything I should know or be aware of while working with/through them?
Cheers
Yupp, half the time it seems they're just taking the piss. Nothing's ever came out from them for me either. But like glottis8 said, hope something comes out of it for ya.
Who was the recruiter if you don't mind me asking? Personally, I would avoid having a third party to represent me to a client. Best case scenario is your resume goes into the pile for a job.
My advice is to do your research. I use to help with hiring and a recruiter was always a hurdle as there was a middleman between communication and it normally comes at a 10-15% cost to the studio which meant the candidate received less then he/she could have or relocation packages took a hit due to the extra charges.
In general it is always better to reach out directly to the studio. However recruiters can bring value in the aspect of they may help you find jobs at studios that were not on your radar or do not actively post on job search sites.
Your work is good enough to work without a recruiter...why should anyone take a cut, just for acting as a middleman...seems a scam of a job, but then companies do look for people on strange ways.
Thanks Glottis8, Luke Starkie! Always good to read about personal experiences with them.

Katana, Thanks bud
I've never dealt with a recruiter personally, but I have had a friend work with one who ended up landing a job at a well known studio, and his career has lifted off since. Sounds like that isn't the case a lot of the time, though.
@gsokol Thats what I was thinking. I was contacted about a position recently via a recruiter I was put into contact with back in March. Nothing came of it then time, but as someone who's still trying to break in I don't want to close off any opportunities. Obviously if the circumstances aren't great it wouldn't be a good idea. For someone with some experience in the industry it probably doesn't make as much sense to go through a third party.
Hope things work out for you Stephen, your animations look great.
