For college i have to do a Final Major Project (FMP) and this includes a first persan shooter and a 2d game which can be ether side scroller, top down or platform. i tought of use my concept from the other unit which is story writing for the 2d game. the concept is based on shakespehers battle of Shrewsbury and contains a macguffin (had to use these themes for the unit). the idea is based on football hooligans. so you think this is a good concept or should i change it. by the way the shakespher and macguffin bit i have to keep

Hate to be that guy, but your spelling and grammar is atrocious. I wouldn't normally say anything but I feel like the breathless and haphazard way you spit that out is obscuring some of the meaning. We might be able to help better if you can be more clear. Also, some elaboration might help.
I was considering using my concept from a previous story-writing exercise given in another module. This story is based on Shakespeare's battle of Shrewsbury. It contains a mcguffin (irrelevant?) The idea is based on Football hooligans (soccer tards?)
Do you think that this is a decent concept to be working from, or should I change it? If I do change it, I will have to keep the Shakespeare bit and the macguffin.
Even at this, I'm not sure I have enough info to give you any advice. I would think some exposition about the hooligan story, and also about the exact specifications of the assignment are in order. This might include if you'll be working on a team, what your responsibilities will be, how long you have, how much story needs to be in place, and where grading emphasis will be, for starters. The more information, the better, as long as that info is relevant.
All that aside, one super important skill for future job seekers is the ability to communicate clearly, not only in person but also in writing. I would not take acquiring this skill lightly.
i feel like can break it down:
first persan shooter:
- Code
- 3d Graphics
- Shooting
2d game:
- Code
- 2d graphics
- game mechanics
- story
- story implementation including dialogue, scenes, extra characters, all fitting within the william shakespher and macguffin framework.
So I'd do the first persan shooter, but that's just me.
Get yourself a engine that you are familiar with.
I would personally recommend Unity, it's a great engine to very quickly make some prototypes in.
And make a very basic prototype.
Don't concern yourself with setting, looks, but just focus on the basic gameplay mechanics at first.
Then let some other people playtest it, see if it's fun, tweak where needed and continue from there.
I agree you could knock out a prototype in unity in a few days. Maybe a bit longer if you need to learn some stuff about it first.
yup, this is Unity 3D:
