Concept For the model

Greetings, I thought I'd go ahead and share the process for my first Zbrush model. Feel free to provide feedback, though I'm doing this for a class project and might not be able to make immediate changes due to time constraints. Ill get to it eventually. :P This will be my first character model, but I've done a few small things in zbrush before, and am provided with guidance by my professor.

What I have so far.. The arms for now are just the IMM Female arms, and I still have to sculpt on them.

Here's a closeup of the face, though some of the details still need to be redefined.

Didn't you make a post about this not long ago? I remember reading it and the comments...

I would say looking very good, but her leg below her calves are too skinny. You can see it most from the side view. It might help to look at it from above. Sometimes proportions can get lost when you only look at the model straight-on. She also kind of has a weird bulge before her toes.. She looks like she has some meat on her bones so her butt crack would probably not be separated like that.(ahahahhaha) Her clavicle is a wee bit down-turned. In the pic you can see how it is more straight than you might think. clavicle-300.jpg

I am looking forward to an update. ^^

Amazing for your first try! You are only going to get better.

For me,It's the Nasolabial fold, bulge near the Greater Trochanter,Length of the neck,Curvature of the Trapezius and It looks like her arms are really squished into her torso. There's usually a small nub atop the deltoid(I believe that's the end of the clavicle connecting the the scapula to form the ball and socket joint for the humerous. The head seems really tiny and calves don't look like they'd be able to support the body front the comparisons. There's an odd depression on the side of the calves, but I don't know if that's normal or not.

There's probably much more insightful criticism for you though for I've only been in anatomy for 6 months or so.It looks wonderful for your first try! Mine was awful..Just awful...Good luck!

@kmactastic: Thanks! I 've only made a post about it once, but it's been a while since i've updated it...Thanks for your tips though, I will be adding a bit more meat to her legs and fix the clavicals a bit. The feet so far are a bit of a placeholder because she's going to be wearing giant metal boots anyway, but that's an easy enough fix. xD

    @looprix: Thanks, I appreciate the encouragement! :)

@Melodeus: Thanks for the tips! I'll be looking into those shortly! :)I kinda wanted the neck to be a bit long seeing as theres going to be a lot of stuff going on around there (the fur hood, giant shoulderpads in the concept) and it looks a lot better once you see it in that context. Ill probably be adding a picture of the armor so far later today or tomorrow.

Whoops I thought I already made a post with the Armor a long time ago.... Anyways here's what I have so far. Figure finishedish, armor basic blocking in done, and a terrible retopo. This is the first time Ive used topogun and made a low poly of an organic model, so I need a lot of help. lol Any tips or resourses you can link me to would be helpful, I feel like i have too many stars/ too much unneeded polys... but No tris, so that good, right :D?

    proportions look incorrect.

I agree with scapulator. You should turn your subdivisions way down and nail the proportions before you start on any details or clothes. The torso looks really big for the rest of the body and some of the silhouettes look a bit lumpy especially down by the ankles.
  • DarkStar
how can you know that the proportion are incorrect... life is not all about proportion and i have seen people like this before... Great job!!!

Thanks for your advice! I would completely agree if I was going for an ideal figure, and perhaps the torso could use a little bit of shortening but I lined it up with my reference (a photo) and the torso was actually pretty close to how I had it.

Either way, the final clothed figure is going to have little distinction in the armor as far as where the torso ends and the legs begin... And my deadlines kind of restrain me from fiddling with the anatomy any longer. But all and all I appreciate the advice and support, as always. :) plan on working on the armor and low poly a bit more, so stay tuned for details.

Still need to do some polypainting, add a few belts, sculpt the hair more (or should I Fiber mesh it too?) and add in some more surface details.
