THANK YOU FOR WATCHING !!
ALL C&C ARE APPRECIATED !!
Great choice of character, FFT is definitely my favorite all time game. As a crit, I see a lot of proportion issues. Going back to the base and making him more human on an unclothed level will help eat the Armour positioned and sitting right down the line..
Thanks It's my fav game as well.
Any specific things I should watch out for ? FFT's all characters have long legs, short body, big heads, long arms and big hands :P
Oh, he doesn't have an unclothe body <_<" Armor is his body :P
Yes, I realize he doesn't have a body right now. I was saying that I believe your choice not to do a body, and skip right to attempting to do the armor, is the reason why he seems to lack any convincing proportions. I would start with the naked body, try to get that where it need to be first, then move on to the clothing. This is the way most people model and it has a lot of merit to it. It's very hard to start armor/clothes first.
Right now I'm studying male torso, so in the mean time I decide to go with this approach instead (no body, just armors). To be fair, even my skin-tight clothed female char put me thru proportion struggle as well. I will do the body inside armor for next piece for sure though.
With that aside, I did import my Body Mesh as reference to adjust the armors around.
Result so far. I will most likely shorten his forearms tomorrow.
Also using this character sheet. Different armor, but it's the same guy so it's kinda sorta alright.
I've never seen this character but from your ref I can give you some pointers :
- proportions of the head don't match the ref at all. It should be rounder and the cheeks shouldn't be so defined (it looks like he's starving!). I think you should take example on how Hazardous did Hatsune Miku (http://www.hazardousarts.com/G_miku.html) They almost the same face.
- proportions of the armor. You completely missed the cartoon proportions like the big shoes, big hands, big chest VS small waist.
Be sure to get these things right early or it will only get worse and you will never get the likeness.
And yes, I will tackle those issues today. I haven't started on his face yet, so he's kinda mannequin face at the moment. But yeah, big hands and big feet, rofl!
The armor is way too soft. They should be their own meshes and model them out or really polish them in zbrush. For the face, don't just draw it on. Look at something like this. http://hazardousarts.deviantart.com/gallery/?offset=96
You're right, I can't polish it well enough in ZBrush yet.
So I retopologize this in 3D Coat, add extra edges for hardsurface.
I might try something like Haz's approach to anime face.
Added:
Still working on it.
Putting armors on top of underneath clothe.
The armor is coming along nicely but I think you need to re-work the face. Following the exact forms of a 2D art style that does a lot of cheating can be problematic. I don't know what exactly you're looking to do with the face but I think you'd be better served looking at the faces in Final Fantasy games and study the way they do shape profiles and forms that evoke the 2D concepts but also look good in their own aesthetic.
Still alive. But slow update.
I have been remaking the legging armors like 4 times already. Still not happy with them.
Here's general direction I'm taking with his face.

Somehow, he reminds me of this guy David from Silver by Infogrames. Damn, such awesome game.
