Hi everyone, I could use some advice on how to progress.
heres the concept:

here's what i have so far, i need some critique to get on the right track:

the empty space is saved for other environment pieces i plan to include in this set later.

i've tried to view this in maya using a .png file to see how it looks without the black, but i get this:

not sure how to fix it...

also, im not sure how im supposed to implement the "glow" in the diffuse. if im understanding the concept art correctly the flower is originally shades of purple, and theres some sort of light inside it that makes the yellow/orange radiate through the thin stem. however im only supposed to have diffuse for this so idk how to achieve this effect. I know im a noob, i need lots of input on how to go about texturing the stem...
