Hey guys! Been working on this for the past week, and thought I'd might keep you posted with my project. I'm basing an environment off this painting by Craig Mullins:
Also here are some other sweet concepts that I'm using for reference ^^
The artists responsible for these pieces are Paooo (
http://paooo.deviantart.com/ ), and PE-Travers (
http://pe-travers.deviantart.com/ )
And here is my progress thus far:
I'll admit there might not be tooooo much to look at so far, some meshes are rather placeholder and there is much to be added. But I'll be sure to update with more progress as time goes on! Thanks!

Soooooo I am continuing to add modeling detail to my scene, and I think at this point, it would be wise to move onto making the textures (which seems like the real challenge). Since it seems like they will affect the process of re-iteration and addition of detail within the environment more than anything else. Here is another update!
(Although they wont look this lame haha :S )
another shot:
Have a great weekend !
That is AWESOME it looks sooooo huge!
Best school project ever
Great exercise in building large environments, but as a portfolio piece, it needs to be more focused in my opinion. It kinda feels like a huge amount of metal modular blocks kinda slapped together haphazardly, currently. Keep it up though, if you can pull this off.... That would be huge (<--- see what I did there).
Sandalwud: Thanks so much! I appreciate it man.
Add3r: Aaahh just the comment I was looking for, I was wondering myself if I needed a better focal set of focal points. I was thinking that I could make some sort of large structure coming up at the bottom center of the environment (beneath the large catwalks). I believe I shall create just that, or even some sort of levitating craft? hmm. I must figure this out before following through with extra detail on the rest of my pieces. Thanks for the reply!!
Using lighting to breakup foreground and background could help with the noise as well, much like what Craig Mullins did in that concept you're using as reference. He has a strong green in the foreground, a second strong green in the middle and an above flood light type light coming from above in the background. Those really help to callout the forms of alot of the space.
Looking really awesome so far though. I'm excited to see where you take this.
I still have to add my main centerpiece objects; flying ships going to and from side to side of the main bridge
@Chriszuko thanks so much! I will make sure to keep the detail level in check, definitely a fine line to walk across. I love your sci fi cave environment by the way, and other previous works
Can't wait for the finished result.
@bZero: Size really doesnt matter :P Its honestly just using a large amount of modular pieces and material ID textures that will give you a good amount of detail over a large area quite quickly. Basically I'm just re-using assets to their fullest extent to create a scene that looks very big. I'm glad you like it! I will go over how I do things once this is done
Looking forward to that.
Great job, I'm looking forward to seeing this progress - keep it up mate.
Am going to have a massive flying ship coming through that giant tunnel
(Lighting is way off still)
